Dan Brown is Assistant Manager at the Covington Wal-Mart. He is also an active volunteer at Jackson High School where his daughter Laura Brown is a sophomore and from which his daughter Erin Brown graduated in 2008. Through Wal-Mart’s “Volunteerism Always Pays” program, Mr. Brown has been able to increase his contributions to Jackson High School even more.
On Friday, February 26 Mr. Brown presented a check for $250 to JHS Principal Duane Kline. The Wal-Mart Foundation supports its associates who volunteer time in community organizations and schools by donating up to $250 every six months for 25 hours of donated time and service. Since the program began in 1995, Wal-Mart associates have donated more than seven million hours of service.
“During my 10-year Wal-Mart career, I have been able to funnel over $5,000 to local schools in Georgia and Alabama,” said Brown.
He has served on the JHS School Council for two years and has worked with the Soccer Booster Club for several years, serving as Vice President of the Lady Devils Soccer Boosters this year.
The Browns moved to Butts County six years ago. Mr. Brown’s wife, Beth, teaches at Daughtry Elementary School.
“I feel good about the program because it allows me to bring Wal-Mart funds into Butts County,” said Mr. Brown.
He has also been able to make in-kind donations from Wal-Mart to the JHS choral and drama groups, including costumes, make-up, and props.
Mr. Kline plans to use the $250 in the JHS Teacher of the Month, Student of the Month, and Positive Behavior Support programs.
“This is just the most recent contribution of a long -standing relationship,” said Kline. “We really appreciate it.”
