For anyone who loves barbecue, camaraderie, or a challenge, the Exchange Club Fairgrounds in Jackson was the place to be this weekend. Teams began arriving early Friday morning to set up and begin showing what real barbecue grilling is about at the Second Annual Smokin’ Pork ‘n Butts, and the festivities continued through the last musical notes of the street dance on Saturday night.

The Butts County Parks & Recreation Department continued a joyous decade-long tradition on Monday, March 15 with its 11th Annual Volunteer Recognition Hall of Fame Banquet. As Mary Lynn Overbey noted in her recognition of volunteers, “Our programs would not be possible without the volunteers who give their time and knowledge.”

Worthville resident Larry Wilson addressed the Board of Commissioners at the Board’s March 8 meeting about obtaining verification from the Insurance Service Office (ISO) insuring the rating for the office wouldn't change while the new firehouse was under construction. (Full Story)

BOC dissolves retirement benefit for future boards; resolution undoes package adopted in 2008

Commissioner Gator Hodges, who made it a personal mission to abolish the retirement package the Board of Commissioners adopted in 2008, saw his persistence come to a head last Monday evening when the Board voted 4-1 to dissolve commissioner retirement benefits. The adjustment will affect anyone elected after the five current commissioners. (Full Story)
