Diane Ogletree grew up in Butts County and still calls it home. She has served in the Georgia National Guard for 28 years -- full time for the last six years -- and she deployed to Afghanistan with Bravo Company, 148th Brigade Support Battalion out of Jackson in April 2009 for a year's tour. She has three children, 11-year-old twins and a 13-year-old. They will all be students at Henderson Middle School this year. Whenever she has free time, she enjoys working in her flower garden. She also loves helping people, whether in Butts County or in the Middle East.
What is your most significant childhood memory?
Learning to read before kindergarten.
What is your favorite movie?
“The Color Purple”
What was the first album you bought with your own money?
Prince, “Purple Rain”
Where did you go on your favorite vacation?
Disney World
If you could eat lunch with one person, who would it be?
Maya Angelou
What characteristic do you despise?
Dishonesty
If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation, where would you go?
Africa, the mother land
What is the most unusual clothing item in your closet?
A mink coat, imported from Afghanistan.
What did you do for your last birthday?
I spent my last birthday in Afghanistan, surrounded by my military family.
What is your favorite food?
Crab legs
Which historical figure do you identify with most, and why?
Rosa Parks, for taking a stand against injustice.
Which living person do you most admire?
My mother. She raised five children alone and is now 80 years old.
What is your greatest regret?
Not taking advantage of my free, public education.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My spending habits. I have a champagne taste with a beer budget.
What is one thing you’d like to see in Butts County’s future?
More walking trails, and bike trails.

Why is there so little diversity in this town?
What is your favorite time of day?
Morning, the start of a new day.

1966 Ford Mustang
What is your idea of fun?
Having friends and family over for cookouts.
What is your life’s philosophy?
I live by the golden rule, treating others the way I want to be treated.
What do you like best about Butts County?
The small-town atmosphere and the simplicity.
