Drew High’s Townsend to compete at U.S. Open

Last Updated: 12:13 AM 09/03/10 - At only 14 years old, Clayton County Public Schools freshman Taylor Townsend has gained international attention as a three time tennis champion this year. Taylor earned the 2010 International Tennis Federation World Junior Tennis Finals Champion title with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) girls’ team under coach Kathy Rinaldi, the USTA National Clay Court Girls’ 14s Doubles Champion, and the 2010 Easter Bowl Girls’ Doubles Champion while training with Donald Young Sr. of Atlanta. Lovejoy Top Dog in Big Cat Classic

Last Updated: 12:02 AM 08/28/10 - The Lovejoy Wildcats started off their season with a bang against the Mundy’s Mill Tigers in a 27-0 victory Friday night at Twelve Oaks Stadium. This game marked the first of what is to be an annual Big Cat Classic, and tradition was started in style. Lovejoy’s offense featured a staggering rush attack, rushing for almost 200 yards and three touchdowns. (Full Story)

A week after falling 40-26 at Fitzgerald, the Devils returned to the friendly confines of Brodie Field Friday night. Led by freshman Tadric Jackson’s 220 yards of combined offense, the Devils thrilled the home crowd with a 34-7 win over the visiting Locust Grove High Wildcats. (Full Story)

    The Butts County Parks & Recreation Department was a busy place on Saturday morning, as high school athletes and their coaches took time to instruct and inspire their younger counterparts on recreation cheerleading, football, and soccer teams. From 9:30 until 11 a.m., they held clinics to teach skills and fundamentals.
