The Hampton City Council, on Tuesday, appointed Warren Bailey to the Henry County Zoning Advisory Board.
The city recently agreed to allow Henry County to resume handling its planning and zoning matters. The agreement gave the city a seat on the county’s zoning board, which reviews and makes recommendations on a variety of zoning cases.
“This is a new venture for us, [as far as] doing things for the City of Hampton,” said Jeremy Gilbert, a planner with the county Planning and Zoning Department.
The county will also provide Hampton with development plan review and building inspection services, Gilbert added.
The next meeting of the zoning board is scheduled for Thursday.
The City of Hampton broke from the county and created its own planning and zoning board eight years ago, said Hampton Mayor R.W. Coley. County officials said in a statement that Locust Grove broke away at the same time, and continues to handle its own planning and zoning.
The addition of Bailey brings the number of Henry County Zoning Advisory Board members to eight. Other members are Andy Calhoun, John Palmer, Terry Echols, William Herndon, Thomas Hester, Jim Butcher and Sue Ostrander.
