With a possible Peach Belt Conference regular season championship at stake, the Clayton State Laker men’s soccer team could not cash in on key opportunities on Saturday, dropping a tough 1-0 decision at rival Lander.
The defeat concludes Clayton State’s regular season at 10-5-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the PBC, and it ends the Lakers’ seven-game unbeaten streak. The Lakers had a chance to tie in the 41st minute when forward Leighton Fredericks had a point-blank opportunity off a corner kick. But Bearcat goalkeeper Matthew Atkinson made a diving say.
Atkinson later had two key saves on a possible Clayton State scoring sequence in the second half.
